Slingshot Maine Cast on aka German Twisted Cast on aka Norwegian Cast on

Maine method cast on from Robin Hansen's Favorite Mittens book. Only followed the illustration in the book for the first stitch. Use slingshot like regular long tail cast on for the subsequent stitches. The Maine caston is supposed to be more stretchy. Turns out it's as same as German twisted cast on or Norwegian (twisted) cast on.qQ

German Twisted Cast On

This cast on provides the perfect balance between stretch and structure. It is similar to the Long Tail Cast On but each stitch gets an extra twist, giving it that touch of added stretch that makes it so wonderful.

I use the German Twisted Cast on for almost anything that needs a firm but stretchy edge – for socks, hats and gloves it is my number one go to cast on method.

I have also heard this cast on referred to as the Old Norwegian Cast On.
